Suggest Treatment For Severe Vertigo While Having Stroke

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: On October 27 I had a bad vertigo attack and fell down hard, fractured 3 ribs, right scapula , partially collapsed lung, small amount of bleeding from my kidney. Had ambulance ride to hospital close by in severe pain. Morphine drip would not help, had all tests and 8 days in hospital 2 more weeks at home recovering. I have had vertigo since a small stroke behind ear in April 2009. I have XXXXXXX taking meclizine for 7 years. I have fallen a dozen time and never got even a scratch, got right up and all fine. Is there something that might work better. I am now scared to walk because of the fear involved. I do use a cane all the time but I still get dizzy

Brief Answer:
Stroke prevention and Vestibular Rehabilitational exercises.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Stroke related vertigo treatment consists on two elements:

1. Preventive treatment of possible further transient ischemic attacks or strokes with blood thinner drugs ( Aspirin like drugs ), high blood pressure control, avoiding smoking etc.

2. Besides Meclizine, vestibular Rehabilitational exercises help in improving symptoms and preventing further undesirable events.

I suggest you to discuss with your treating Doctor about preventive treatment and starting of vestibular rehabilitational exercises.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
