Suggest Treatment For Sharp Lower Abdominal Pain In A Child
Question: Hello, this is actually a question for my 9 (almost, in 1 1/2 months) year old daughter. She says for the past few days her chest has been hurting when she gets out of the shower, but tonight is the first I have heard of it. As she laid down about an hour after her shower, she complained of the pain. She said it's a sharp pain, a little in her lower abdomen but also around her top right side. What could be causing this type of pain?
Brief Answer:
Could be urinary or bowel or muscular pain
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description, considering her age and sex, I can think of three possibilities.
1. Urinary tract infection.
2. Bowel irritation or inflammation.
3.Muscular pain due to improper posture or mild trauma.
I would suggest you to take her to your pediatrician to get her completely examined.
A proper clinical examination along with urine test may identify the reason.
Meanwhile you can try acetaminophen temporarily till she visits her doctor.
Ensure she drinks plenty of liquids.
Wishing your daughter good health.
Regards
Dr Arun
