Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain And Tenderness After Appendix Surgery
Question: Hi my appendix ruptured 10 weeks ago and I felt fine afterward. Now I'm having sharp pain and tenderness in that area. My dr. also put me on Pradaxa for an irregular heartbeat. Would this maybe be the cause? Any help is appreciated.
Brief Answer:
You should get an Ultrasound/CT scan abdomen.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I would like to have some more information.
1.Whether Surgery was done by Laparoscopic approach or Open method?
2.Whether Drain was kept inside ?
Drug may not be the cause for pain.
I have seen cases of residual mild infection in the right lower part of abdomen causing pain. There may be chances of Abscess in that area.
Ultrasound /CT scan of the abdomen will confirm the diagnosis.
Please consult your doctor /Surgical Gastroenterologist , get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.
Hope I answered your query.
Regards

Hi...it was done by laparoscopic surgery and there was no drain. Dr. said he cleaned it all out when he operated. I was on IV antibiotics for 2 days and pills for 5 days at home. Also my appendix ruptured once before and I was on antibiotics and wore a drainage bag for a month or so but that was around 2 years ago. A colonoscopy revealed my appendix had healed and he said I didn't need it removed. My bowels are working fine so I don't think it's built up gas or something.
Brief Answer:
You can get an Ultrasound abdomen.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As drain was not kept after 2nd surgery, residual infection might be present in the right lower part of abdomen.
Get an Ultrasound abdomen initially. It will give a clue. Although irregular heartbeat may not be a cause for this.
