Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In Left Rib Area

Question: I lifted a large back of mulch into the car and felt a "pop" in my left rib area. Sharp pain initially, then it seemed to be gone for 2 days. I woke up yesterday with dull, consistent pain in the area. A little better today but pain when I reach out or above my shoulder. Do I need to see a doctor? What can I do to help it heal?
I had the same feeling 4 years ago when I tried to move a heavy bookcase alone.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

The problem you have can be caused by a musle pull or a sore rib.This is a very common issue which may occur after lifting a heavy weight usually in people who arent used to of lifting heavy weights on every day basis.

In my opinion you dont need to see a doctor immediately all you have to do is to wait and do following measure.

1) Do warm compresses over the area.
2) Rub brufen or diclofebac gle over the area.
3) Dont sleep on the side of pain.
4) Limit your movement.
5) Dont lift heavy weight till it gets better.
6) You can use tylenol if pain makes it real necessary.
