Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Knee

default
Posted on Sat, 24 Sep 2016
Question: I don't have ACL's in my knees. I have been doing well but yesterday I stepped wrongly and felt a snap on the outside of my right knee just below the knee cap and sharp pain. It pains to walk but only then. I have been icing it. There is no swelling but hurts to the touch. Should I go in to see the doctor that did my hip replacements ten years ago?

Brief Answer:
yes you need to get x ray of the knee joint

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you might have a problem in your knee joint. It can be a bony or soft tissue problem. Remember that knee which are deficient in ACL are always prone for injury. So I would suggest you to follow these steps.
1.Continue ice and rest. Do not walk or stand for long time.
2.Compression bandage is helpful or knee cap.
3.You do not need to rush to doctor but at least get an x ray to see if there is any hair line crack.
4.Tablet Advil should be taken for pain.
I hope your x ray will be normal as you are saying that there is no swelling. Still there is no harm in doing that. In rare cases MRI is needed when pain is increasing and your are not able to walk even after one to two weeks.
I hope this answer will be useful of you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
