Brief Answer:
EArly diagnosis by proper exams / till then symptomatic treamtent

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.

The yellow substance means bile is present in the vomit.
This along with pain in the upper abdomen indicate the following things:
-There can be an obstruction to the small intestine.
-Inflammation of the structures in the upper abdomen, namely the stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, liver and so on.

May I please know any other associated symptoms you have or any past history.

I would advise in such a condition the following:
-Clinical evaluation, actual physical examination.
-Investigations:
Blood- CBC, liver functions, amylase, lipase, urea, creatinine, sugar, electrolytes and additional as per the clinical picture.
Ultrasonography may be deciding in many such patients.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position still has diagnostic values.
Any other investigation to confirm the preliminary findings or to add on the diagnosis.

I hope this answer help[s you to get an early diagnosis and proper treatment.
Please feel free to ask further relevant queries or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communications.

After severe pain for about 7 hours, I went to the ER, did an EKG which was normal. After sitting in the waiting area, the pain just stopped. No residual symptoms, I am fine. If indeed this was a small intestine blockage, what might have caused it and is there any lingering indications that would determine if this was the cause.

I have never had anything like this, and to have it just stop suddenly is almost as problematic as the problem itself. If I go to my primary physician, any specific tests to cover all possible causes?

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
USG and Barium studies.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
You were lucky to have got symptom-free.

You may please request PCP for ultrasonography of the whole abdomen and Barium study. These two investigations would be sufficient to say if there is any lingering problem or not.

It would be difficult to pin-point any problem at the moment.
