Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath And Sinus Infection

Question: Hello, I'm feeling frustrated and perplexed after a dr visit today. About 4 months ago, I went in for a virus that ended in a sinus infection. I received an antibiotic and about a week after I finished the Meds, I went back in for shortness of breath. After a breathing test, I was told I wasn't even getting enough oxygen to sit on the couch, I was given an inhaler and diagnosed with bronchitis. I also had a chest X-ray that came back fine. 3 months after, I'm still feeling burning in my lungs and coughing up phlegm that's dark and difficult to expel. I'm also incredibly tired, I come home from work and go to bed. This is not me! I'm otherwise a healthy, busy 41 yr old woman, mom, wife, etc. I went in today, and without any tests, was told to stop using inhalers and to get an rx for gerd. I have NO symptoms of gerd. I'm struggling yo understand why he would jump to such a conclusion, and what this could really be? The coughing and phlegm only began with this virus. Please help!

Brief Answer:
You could be having RAD

Detailed Answer:

Dear XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM and I empathize with you on your distress because of various medical issues.

In my opinion you are suffering from RAD-Reactive Airways Disease.

In RAD, airways become very sensitive and hypereactive especially after a bout of viral infection. As a result they go into spasm on exposure to various allergens like smoke and dust in our environment. This leads to breathlessness and cough. Do you have any allergy and are you a smoker?

You will have to take inhalers. Try different inhalers like symbicort 2 puffs 2 to 3 times a day. Also take a montair lc tablet.

Excess gastric acid or GERD may worsen the symptoms hence you should also take a PPI like pan 40 or sompraz.

You have to take these for a longer duration like 3 to 4 weeks for complete relief.

If with these measures you are still not relieved of your symptoms , I suggest you see a pulmonologist as he will have a look at you, may order some investigations and advise you accordingly.

I hope this answers your query
