Suggest Treatment For Shoulder Pain With Numbness And Tingling Sensation

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: I am male, over 65 and in general good health. For last 10 days I have had deep pain in backside of right shoulder. Pain does not seem to be in bone, but rather in deep tissue. Pain is fairly constant with some relief in various positions. Also, perhaps related, I am having what I would consider severe numbing in my right hand, mostly in my thumb and first and middle fingers. Numbness and tingling is present most of the time but intensity fluctuates.

Brief Answer:
Vertebral spine/liver/gallbladder/kidney problems/stones to consider...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

You are referring to have:
- deep pain in backside of right shoulder
- getting relief in various positions
- severe numbing in your right hand most of the time with fluctuating intensity

All these symptoms are indicative for problems related to your vertebral spine and shoulder joint that are putting pressure to the nearby nerves causing numbness and pain.

Gabapentin is supposed to reduce the pain. If you have taken all this while and no relief, then, another pain-killer should be consider perhaps shots.
A further X-ray of vertebral spine of the thorax and neck is advised to evaluate the current changes and identify possible problems.

As you are taking the hbp med (carvedilol), further cardiac check up is also advised to rule out heart problems (e.g. ecg, echocardiograme,).

Sometimes, problems with liver, gallbladder, kidney and pancreas are also related to the symptoms you are referring taking into account that you are taking allopurinol for hyperuricemia. Checking the uric acid levels are also advised together with abdominal ultrasound.

Apart the suggested tests, I advise to:
- discuss with your doctor to change or add pain killer shots for at least 5 days to relieve the pain
- take multivitamins supplement for the joints containing vit.B complex (especially b12 and b6)

Hope it was of help!
