Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Benadryl
Question: My wife has allergies sneezing, running nose, wakes up congested, buffy eyes. Has been tested for allergies but nothing was found. She's gluten intolerant.
She takes Benadryl quite regularly. Also nose the nasal rinse. Both help. I'm concerned about possible side effects of taking Benadryl on a regular basis

Looking at the symptoms,your wife is probably suffering from Allergic Rhinitis.
Benadryl contains Diphenhydramine,which is an Antihistaminic medicine.
Common side effects of Benadryl include sedation, tiredness, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, constipation, dry mouth/nose/throat, difficulty urinating, and upset stomach. Benadryl may also cause blurred vision, double vision, tremor, loss of appetite, or nausea.
Instead of Benadryl,she can use newer Antihistaminic medicine like Loratidine,Desloratidine,Fexofenadine,etc which have lesser side effects as compared to Benadryl.
She may also find relief by taking Nasal Steroid spray like Mometasone It has a very good role in Allergic Rhinitis and least systemic side effects.
Also avoid dust.Drink lots of warm fluids.Take gluten free diet.
She can also have an Extended Allergy test which tests for more Allergens,to find out which substances she is Allergic to,so that she can avoid those substances.
