Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Diltiazem
Question: Hi,
I'm being taken off of Diltiam 240 mg 24 hour time release and changed to Atenolol. The change is at my request, Diltiazem gives me side effects and I've recently had pvcs and palpitations. My cardiologist says I can just stop taking Diltiazem and then start the Atenolol. I've had a stress test and echocardiogram recently, the heart was described as strong and structurally sound; but I had pvcs. I've had chest tightness and discomfort the past month as well. I'm also due to have a CT Scan of the heart. Can you just stop Diltiazem and start another bp med like Atenolol? The sudden pains, palpitations and pvcs started two months ago after dropping my dose of Diltiazem from 300 to 240.

Brief Answer:
It is possible to stop Diltiazem and start Atenolol
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Atenolol regulates blood pressure, meanwhile eliminating PVCs, so changing the medication is a good idea in your case.
During 24 hour period the majority of Dilthiazem dose will be washed out of your organism, so Atenolol may be started.
Take care
