Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Metronidazole
Question: is it normal for metronidazole to make me feel extremely nauseous on the verge of vomiting, neck and shoulder, pain behind eyes and raging headache? I am taking it 3 times a day and ever since I started the medicine I have felt like crap :(
Brief Answer:
Known side effect of metronidazole
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Nausea, vomiting ,abdominal discomfort and headaches are known side effects of metronidazole. Some patients also get a metallic taste in the mouth
1. tab pantoprazole with domperidone is the ideal drug to counter the side effect. It has to be taken once daily before food
2. if you are not tolerating even after taking pantoprazole with domperidone then I recommend you to be switched over ornidazole. Ornidazole is better tolerated and is easy on the stomach than metronidazole
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Tell me about it. Is that GERD? Because i've had insanely bad acid reflux, nausea in the morning, diarrhea, aching in arms, and neck, and rapid heart rate..can GERD give rapid heart rate??
Thanks for the heap of info.
Do I need to be worried that my neck hurts when i move it?

Aching arms and generalised body ache could be because of dehydration secondary to the diarrhea. Electrolyte imbalance is known to cause this time of generalised weakness. Rapid heart rate suggest dehydration as well.
However pain in the upper stomach and sometimes near the throat is usually related to GERD.
Here is how you should go about it
1. Drink plenty of water. I recommend Oral rehydration solution ( ORS) to all my patients. Drink it sip by sip
2. Avoid spicy and oily food
3. Avoid milk and milk products.
4. If the diarrhea doesnt stop, I usually give my patients Racecodotril three times a day, it gives good symptomatic relief
All patients with reflux should have 4-5 small meals a day rather than 3 heavy meals. This is very important.
Also the head end should be slightly elevated while sleeping. Keeping two pillows helps.
I hope I was of help

I suggest you to stop Metronidazole as it is causing so many side effects. Since the temperature has still not settled I also suggest you to get a WIDAL test done to rule out typhoid. I would put you on cephelosporin instead like Cefixime twice a day.
Heaviness of the head is usually because of the fever itself. Please take Tylenol three times day to bring down the fever
