Suggest Treatment For Sinus Drainage And Bleeding Gums

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Nov 2015
Question: I had a the furthest back top left molar filled about a month ago. A wedge was placed between my teeth during the procedure I suppose to provide better access to the tooth to be repaired. After the procedure, when the sensation returned, I noticed a sharp pain in what felt like my sinuses on the left side. Since then, I have been having sinus drainage, sore bleeding gums, extreme sensitivity to hot and cold. My face even aches, including my scalp. I have, however, made a appointment for Monday to get to the bottom of this. I simply would like to know what could possibly be the matter. I've never had to have work done on any of my top teeth before now. Thanks for your input.

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxx,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as pain and soreness in gums and senstivity to hot and cold is concerned this can be due to deeply carious Restored (filled ) upper molar. Further more there are chances that the treated tooth is deeply infected, even the nerves of the tooth is infected . Pain in sinuses , gums and face can be due to inflammation and irritation of nerves of restored tooth .

I am happy you have the dental appointment. If possible, I suggest that you consult an oral surgeon for clinical examination and investigation. I would order for an Intaoral periapical (IOPA) radiograph of Restored tooth . If iopa radiograph reveals pain is due to restored tooth then tooth can be saved by Root canal treatment followed by Antibiotic and painkiller.

In the meantime I will suggest you to do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day and you can apply an numbing agent on gums for soreness. If they don't help, try over the counter pain medications.

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
