Question: Have sinus headache and congestion with body aches off and on. No fever. Some bronchial congestion at times. Has been coming and going for about 4 weeks. Is it ok to get a flu shot? Do I need antibiotics? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation, oral antihistamine, mucolytic syrup

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
In general If you're sick with a cold or other mild illness (respiratory or otherwise) and you don't have a fever, you can get your flu shot. It is advised get yourself examined by the doctor and let them decide.

Most of the time these are caused by viruses and requires only symptomatic treatment.
In this instance, it would be worthwhile to get your nose and sinus examined by a doctor. He/she may order for a diagnostic nasal endoscopy to see any chronic source of infection.

In the interim I would recommend you
1. Drink plenty of water, especially warm, drink at regular intervals.
2. Steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil 3 to four times a day.
3. Use decongestant Nasal spray like xylometazoline.
4. Wash your face with warm water in night before going to bed and gently blow your nose.
5. Take over the counter oral antihistamine like cetrizine.
6. Drinking warm lemon water with honey may also help soothe a sore throat. You can also try lozenges like strepsils and cofsils which will also be helpful.
7. Mucolytic syrup with terbutalin will be helpful in addressing bronchial congestion.

Try this measures you should be fine.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

Hope this helps.
Take care
