Suggest Treatment For Sinus Infection
Question: I'm a 33 year old female with a recurring cold/bronchitis since Christmas 2013. I've been treated with 4 rounds of oral antibiotics and most recently, an injection of rocephin with oral Augmentin and Doxycycline. The doctor who is treating me decided to run blood tests, and the following information was provided to me:
WBC - 3.6
NEUT% - 39.1%
NEUT# - 1.4
LYMPH% - 48.9%
LYMPH# - 1.7
ESR - 22
CRP - 1.1
+1 Hypochromia
The doctor is thinking I may be suffering from a severe sinus infection which could be responsible for maintaining the cough. At this point, I'm so lost and I just want to feel better. Do you have any recommendations for questions I should ask my doctor? Should I request a consult with a specialist? Even after 5 rounds of antibiotics, I still have a nasty cough with sinus congestion. Your input and guidance is greatly appreciated!
Brief Answer:
perhaps, yet another drug resistant infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
It is possible that you have yet another drug resistant infection..
however,
1. Is a chest X ray or CT thorax done?
2. Is an X ray or CT of sinuses done?
3. do you have allergies?
you may ask your doctor for above tests if not done.
4.ask for a sinus endoscopy for visualization of sinuses.
5.culture and sensitivtiy from sinus fluids can help in correct diagnosis.
6.ask if the cough could be due to persistent allergy rather than infection
hope this helps.
