Question: I've been diagnostic with shogrens disease
I'm not sure I want to do the ivig treatment , there are too many side effects that I'm concerned about .
I was told I would have to have my blood cleaned as well & then chem .
I'm extremely frustrated not sure where this came from or how I got it , was told there's no cure.
I was wondering if there was an auto immunologist in NYC ,NY that I could see

Brief Answer:
Sjogrens Syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Good evening,

Sjogrens syndrome is an autoimmune condition which has it s main symptoms of dry eyes, dry mouth and it can affect any organ system in your body. But yes, the disease severity does vary from individual to individual.

If you could let me know your blood test reports and other symptoms you are experiencing i will be able to guide you further.

But yes i agree with you, IvIg is not usually the first line of treatment. The treatment of sjogrens syndrome depends on the organ involved. We normally recommend low dose of steroids along with hydroxychloroquine in mild to moderate cases and Anti B cell therapy in severe cases.

So do let me know all your symptoms and the recent blood reports and i can guide you further. Hope the information was useful

This is extremely helpful, thank you
How can I let u know my lab results?
I'm using restasis for the dry eye, my rheumatologist gave me plaquenil but I've discussed with her that my hair is coming out so we stopped that .
I feel weak tired legs & feet are numb especially when I lay down
Having difficulty sleeping.
Where are u located ? What city & state?
Is this life threatening? Can it be managed
I've been told that there is no cure which saddens me tremendously
Is the anti B cell therapy done inpatient or outpatient?

Thank u so very much for your time

Detailed Answer:
Good evening XXXXXX

Well, you need to get your mood uplifted first. You are beginning to experience depression cause of the chronic illness. Sjogrens Syndrome as I told can affect all the systems, but in most cases it is mild and just affects our glands. But yes, it is not curable, but controllable. Just think of it like diabetes, if you keep taking the medications it is going to remain in control. Something like that. Sjogrens is normally not life threatening but if you get depressed and the lose the will to fight, that will be more life threatening. Just go out and relax. Keep taking your medications and it will be good. You are as good as anyone around. Don't worry about the future dear, live for the present. Cause future is something which is not in our hands, the present is.

I am myself located in XXXXXXX but if you want I can find someone out there. You can always send me your reports through here. I think they have the facilities available for it.

Plaquenil is a very good drug and normally doesn't cause hair loss. But it s course of action takes at least 6-8 weeks to begin. Hair fall can be due to the disease itself, I will suggest you to try it once more.
The anti-B cell Therapy is more of a day care procedure but you may need a days admission. Depends on hospital to hospital. But if you need it or not, is something your rheumatologist can answer.

You can send me your reports here and it will help me in figuring out the organ involvement.

hope the information was useful
