Suggest Treatment For Skipped Beats And Anxiety

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Nov 2014
Question: I'm a 29 y.o female with a history of skipped beats. I've been to the doctor over the years for this. I've had ekg, echo, stress tests, holter monitors all of which have come back normal. today, my heart rate all of a sudden jumped up into the 120-130 range and stayed there for about an hour. I had a weird sensation in my neck (if that makes sense). My heartrate seemed regular, with only a few skipped beats. I did my best to ignore it hoping it w as just anxiety. it did eventually go away after about an hour. this sort of thing happened to me several times when I was pregnant (a year ago) and was told to ignore it. Any thoughts on what could've happened today? I don't know if this is relevant, but I had recently finished a glass of wine with a large meal during a birthday celebration.

Brief Answer:
ANXIETY AND HEAVY MEAL INDUCED NORMAL PALPITATIONS

Detailed Answer:
Hello welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
I have been through your history and seen that multiple times you have this problem and anxiety of this will increase this problem.
My advice to you is -

1. If you have been diagnosed as PVCs and APCs previously on holter and it didn't show any dangerous arrhythmias or your doctor has told not to worry than you should believe at least that it's not life threatening.
Secondly don't think about diagnosis now because we already know what it is. Many patients have this problem not only you and they have go through that successfully without any danger. So you can also do it easily.

2.So we talk about which factors will precipitate this palpitations and you just try to avoid them. OK.?
You have seen that whenever you have heavy meals or during pregnancy you have frequent palpitations. It's natural because heart is more closer to chest wall and we can feel our own normal beats and then become anxious and then viscios cycle begins. So, that's your main issue. Try to avoid heavy meals at a time and avoid food items which will cause gaseous problems.

Secondly whenever you have this episode just sit or lie down and be calm and start counting 1 to 100 or sing your favourite song! It's weird actually but has worked in many of my patients successfully.

3 . Still if it won't work then many medicines available that will easily control your anxiety induced palpitations. I can't prescribed here online. Your cardiologist will prescribe it to you.
E. G. - Tab propenolol is a wonderful drug in low dosage in this situation.

4.Do breathing exercises, yoga and regular walking. It will help a lot in palpitations.

So, please don't worry regarding this problem.. You will definitely and permanently solve this.
My best wishes to you.
I hope I have given you satisfactory answer. If you have any further questions you are most welcome.
Thank you.
Have a nice day dear.
