Suggest Treatment For Skipped Heartbeats
My main concern is the heart skips because I witnessed my father's death to a heart attack (myocardial infarction. logically that's different but emotionally it's all still 'the heart' to me). For information I do also have hypothyroidism which is treated with levothyroxine, my TSH was recently in the range of about 1....and I tend to feel better when it's around this figure and worse when it is at 2....Curious if you think this all could be peri menopause, which would be reassuring....I'm 46, my mum had symptoms at 37. thanks
Not typical of menopause. Let’s get the EKG first!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.
I have reviewed your information fully and this is not very suggestive of a possible menopause related symptoms. Menopause related symptoms wouldn’t cause skipped heart beats. However, I will like us to approach this is a systematic and logical way. I will suggest that you get the EKG first and if for sure there are skipped beats, we will characterize them and move on from there.
With flushes and delayed menses at 46, we would not role out possible menopause but menopause and skipped beats are unlikely. However, I will want an EKG first and move on from there.
Like you mentioned, skipped heartbeat and myocardial infarction are vey different things. We will keep this in mind because it increase your risk for heart diseases but probably not the risk for skipped beats.
In all, let’s get first things first. A good EKG and more insights and guidance from that. Communicate the strip to me for an independent review and more insights.
I wish you well.
