Suggest Treatment For Sleep Paralysis
Detailed evaluation is needed to make diagnosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM
I can understand your concern. First of all the diagnosis should be made by proper history taking and evaluation. Sleep paralysis occurs in REM sleep and muscle tone loss is some times associated with hallucinations. One thing that should be ruled out is narcolepsy. Genetic tests are available for narcolepsy so that is not very difficult.
If you have recurrent attacks of sleep paralysis then that is sure to RISP or recurrent isolated sleep paralysis. Sleep EEG will confirm the disorder. The drugs which reduce REM sleep are known to help in sleep paralysis. CLomipramin, Amitriptyline etc are tricyclic drugs and have great efficacy. SSRI drugs like Paroxetine can also be tried. Paroxetine will help to reduce attacks and you will feel better. So please talk to a good doctor for evaluation and treatment.
Thanks and Take care.
