Persistent insomnia increases stress and depression
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You are a 32 years old female and have stress and poor sleep problems. This has resulted in lack of sleep for last 3 days. In most of cases of insomnia stress is one of important factor responsible for poor sleep. Relieving stress resulted in improvement. For short term management of insomnia hypnotic drugs can be used.
Hypnotic drugs like low dose benzodiazepines as Clonazepam, Lorazepam or Z-drugs as Zolpidem or Zopiclone can help in good sleep. These drugs when used on SOS basis help in sleeping and give best results. These are relatively safe drugs and will help to reduce stress and distress by inducing sleep. The risk of dependence and high abuse potential limits their use. Other medicines like Mirtazapine, Trazodon can also help you. These medicines help in improve sleep cycle and also reduce the depression due to stress. The low risk of dependence and abuse potential makes these drugs as better drugs for sleep. When taken regularly under proper supervision these drugs help in good sleep. Please visit a psychiatrist for evaluation and for prescription of these drugs.
Persistently occurring poor sleep increases the stress and anxiety symptoms. These stress and anxiety symptoms further potentiates insomnia which further worsens stress. A vicious cycle or "POOR SLEEP-STRSS-POOR SLEEP" is formed. If not properly treated this can result in severe depression in later stage and this can increase the risk of suicide also. So please visit a doctor as soon as you can as persistent stress and poor sleep can kill you.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.
Take care

Total insomnia may cause confusion, delirium or even death
Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for asking a follow up
Yes total lack of sleep even for a week can cause significant reduction of concentration and results in confusion. Insomnia more than that period can cause delirium and may prove fatal. You are getting about 4 hours of sleep daily and in my opinion there is no need to fear from death due to lack of sleep.
Thanks, I hope this helps you.

Thanks for your appreciation
