Suggest Treatment For Slight Atelectasis Of Left Lung
Question: I have slight atelectasis of left lung. Seeing pulmonary specialist and using incentive spirometer. Pneumonia 2x in less than one year. Passed PFT. See Dr. again in 3 months to repeat CT scan. How long will this last and how long will I need to use spirometer.
Brief Answer:
Atelectasis will usually clear in 3-4 months.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concern.
Atelectasis will usually clear in 3-4 months.
So get done repeat CT thorax after 3 months. Continue spirometry till then.
If atelectesis is cleared, no need for spirometry. But if atelectesis is still there then you will have to continue incentive spirometry for 2-3 months more.
NAC (N acetyl cystine) is also having a role in atelectesis. So please discuss with your doctor about starting it.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
