Question: My daughter abused XXXXXXX for over a year and has now stopped. It has been 3 months, however occasionally on a day to day basis her speech still slurs. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
May wish to get evaluated by a neurologist or speech therapist

Detailed Answer:
Good evening and thanks for your question. I am an adult neurologist and would like to share some thoughts with you.

There are a variety of reasons for someone to slur their speech. Your daughter should be evaluated by her PMD, a neurologist, and likely a speech therapist or pathologist. I can't state just from what you've said whether or not the abuse of XXXXXXX is responsible for her symptoms but I know the evidence may seem compelling to you. Once the PMD checks her over for toxicities since she could be abusing other substances as well...right? That could explain slurred speech....following that evaluation (if negative for anything) then, she should be seen a neurologist, and then, finally if the neurologist finds clear and present problems he will probably refer her to a speech therapist or pathologist.

You could tape her during one of her moments and then, use that as a yardstick to measure her over time to see if things are improving.

I hope this answer satisfactorily addresses your question. If so, may I ask your favor of a HIGH STAR RATING with some written feedback.

Also, if there are no other questions or comments, may I ask you CLOSE THE QUERY on your end so this question can be transacted and archived for further reference by colleagues as necessary?
