Suggest Treatment For Small Red Rash On The Cheeks

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: Just this saturday I noticed a small redish circular 'blemish' on my cheek. It is just smaller than the size of a dime. It was itchy, so I scratched at it, and a thin layer of skin - the size of the small dime, came off. No bleeding, just red color. Just today I scratched it again, and it iis now bleeding. Not profusely, but enough to require a band aid.
Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Possible fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM,

From what you are describing it looks like a fungal infection or a contact dermatitis.
I don't think it is a bacterial infection, so using the local antibiotic won't benefit much.

If I was your caring doctor I would recommend to use an antifungal cream like ketoconazole 2% or miconazole 1%, once or twice/day for 2 weeks.
If you find it combined with a steroid cream would help as well lower the inflamation, but use this one in a thin layer.

Can you provide a photo of it so we confirm the possible diagnoses by having a look at it?

Hope this is helpful.

Take care,
Dr. Papaqako
