Posted on Fri, 13 Feb 2015
Question: I am in the recovery stage of pneumonia. As of 12/27/14 my chest xray was clear. I did not have severe pneumonia. Small spot in lower left lung. Resolved after taking azithromycin and cefuroxime for 4 days. finished the course of antibiotics for 7 days. Received the prevnar vaccine on 1/6/15. My son came home with seems to be a cold. I picked it up. This is the second day. Sneezing, clear watery discharge from nose. Very mild body aches. My temp is 100.8. I am not coughing. Should I be concerned. XXXXX XXXXXXX - XXXXXXX XXXX

Doctor:

My son is 16 years old. He was seen by his doctor on Friday who prescribed 600mg of Omnicef for a sinus infection. He has been fever free since Sunday. He went back to school today.

I was concerned about my pneumonia coming back. I have clear discharge from my nose and have been sneezing. Temp has been fluctuating today between 100.8 to 99.4. Temp is currently 100.5. I am starting to feel better. I was just scared since I have been so sick since 12/13/14. I went back to work 1/12/2015. I think I just have a cold. I was concerned about the temp but my son had a temp of 101.7. Only lasted 2 days. When I had the flu/pneumonia back in December my temp was 103 for 5 days. I don't feel anything like that now. Brief Answer:
Most probably viral flu

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the reply. I have gone through them. First of all i would suggest you to relax. Stress/anxiety almost always exaggerates the problem. Your symptoms are suggesting viral flu. Viral flu takes time to resolve(till completion of its cycle).Antibiotics usually are not recommended in such cases. Following general care will help you to pass through this phase smoothly:

- acetaminophen one after every 6 hrs in case of fever.
- cetirizine one at night for 5 days
- take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it and perform gargles(mouth wash)thrice a day for 3 days. It will give soothing effect.
- Take lots of fluids(water, fresh juices)

AVOID:
> Chilled water
> Drinks/alcohol
> Spicy food
> smoking (if you do)

Hopefully you will start to improve in 2-3 days. If condition remains same or deteriorates then you need to visit hospital.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
