Question: hi a couple of weeks ago I suffered an episode of sore irritated eyes, blurred vision, watery, felt like they were full of sand, hurt to open and close, a yellow weepy discharge, when I went to bed I had severe stabbing pain in right eye, sleeping sitting up helped with the pain. Next morning no pain or discharge just red and irritated. Dry skin around my eyes. But got better during the day. 2nights ago it started again and when I blinked I could see a flashing light like a camera flash. My eyelids were sore to touch. At times they have felt swollen and sunken. They always seem better during the day. Starts off as a scratchy feeling. They not really itchy. Last night I tried a dry eye ointment which made my vision blurry for hour and half. Still sore and a little burning. Still pain went I went to bed. What could this be? I've been taking Duromine for a month.

Brief Answer:
These symptoms indicate eye infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
These symptoms of sore eyes with watering, blurring of vision yellow discharge... are usually seen in infection of the eye in the from of conjunctivitis. The flashing of light like sensation on blinking can be because of accumulation of discharge over the cornea.

This requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops and artificial tears eye drops.
I would like to use antibiotic eye drops like Moxifloxacin eye drops and artificial tears eye drops like Refresh tears eye drops. The eye ointments usually contain oily base and will cause blurring of vision and hence they are not commonly used especially during day time. I am not sure if you can get antibiotic eye drops over the counter in your locality. If you can't please visit a doctor for a prescription.

Duromine can cause mild blurring of vision and dryness of eyes but watering, discharge are usually not seen and these symptoms are usually seen in eye infections. Hence I think these symptoms are related to Duromine.

Thank you for your answer. The fact that my eye is fine during the day and only gets watery, blurring, pain and discharge at night, still means eye infection? The pain is like a stabbing pain under my eyelid which causes my eye to twitch and become watery and weepy. I did originally think conjuctivitis but the chemist said no because of pain and its not weepy all the time. I just want to make sure i get right medication and not keep wasting my money on wrong drops.

Brief Answer:
It can be because of dry eyes.

The presence of symptoms only in the night can be because of dryness of eyes. This requires treatment by the use of artificial tears eye drops like Refresh tears eye drops.
