Suggest Treatment For Sore Knee And Sudden Pain From Hip To Ankle

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: I fell during the night 2 weeks ago. I landed on my right side but in the morning my left knee so sore Ihad to limp to get around saw the doc, got an order for xray of knees. Nothing abnormal showed. Then the Friday after the fall (I fell on Sturday @3 a.m.) I was normal I thought. On the Saturday after the fall, I was doing some light yard work when all of a sudden I could not stand up. I had pain from my hip to my ankle. I had hip xray and it showed nothing. I went to a chiropractor which just made my pain worse. I have follow up apt in tw weeks. In the meantime I am not getting any thing from the docs except prescriptions. Could I possibly have a hip problem like a hairline fracture? I am getting really tired from all of this not to mention
the diet of pain meds. Can you suggest something to ask the orthopeadic (sp) to get him to do an MRI?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to a nerve root compression.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Since your X-rays are normal, any fracture is less likely in the area.
The pain from hip to ankle can be due to a nerve root compression at the level of lower lumbar spine. An MRI scan of the lower back will help in detecting the cause of pain. Till then it is best to avoid bending forwards and take oral muscle relaxants to help with the pain.
I hope this answers your query.
