Suggest Treatment For Sore On The Tongue

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: I've had a sore on my tongue for about a week, though it's mostly healed now. It was basically a sore but it looked like it had an open cut in it. It's like 80 or 90% healed. My question is this: I have a date on Tuesday. If we have an open mouth kiss and if she has any STDs, could they be transmitted that way? (Hopefully she doesn't have any but I wanted to know.)

Brief Answer:
The risk of HIV/STD with kissing in presence of a sore is negligible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
First of all, your girl friend is not necessarily be infected with HIV or STD.
HIV is not present in human saliva in adequate concentration to cause a new infection unless it is contaminated with blood. Chances of STD through deep kiss is remote unless the individual has an obvious oral lesion (except Herpes simplex 1 infection -not a STD primarily).
At the same time presence of an sore in your mouth (discontinuity of the covering structure) will likely to increase the chance of getting an STD/HIV to a little extent, if that lady has something. But the risk through deep kissing is negligible as per CDC, XXXXXXX
