Question : I have been suffering from what seems like a chest cold for a week now. Used Dayquil for 5 days. It helped with sympotoms. Now I have had a sort throat for the last 2 days, and also still have the chest cold symptoms.

I understand your concern.
Your present illness started as a viral infection for which you took symptomatic treatment. Normally that is sufficient as the body develops immunity and overcome the viral infection. Sometimes these viral infections are followed by a super added bacterial infection which may be the present problem. In such a case you would require an antibiotic. Take some betadine gargles now if you do not have ready access to a doctor. If it does not subside, then you should see a doctor and have yourself examined and treated with proper antibiotics which are prescription medicines.
