Question: My 21 year old son has just returned from a weekend visiting with his military friend on leave. They drank alcohol during the visit. He is now complaining of a sore throat and swollen and slightly painful lymph node under left arm for 2 days. No other symptoms. Should we be concerned at this point about the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Does not seem to be a cause for concern.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and the present situation does not seem concerning to me. It seems that he has got a throat infection (sore throat) and the infection is getting drained into the adjacent lymph nodes thus making the nodes slightly painful. The lymph nodes in the left armpit could have enlarged due to some localized infection and do not seem to be a cause for concern.

Gurgling with lukewarm water should help. Overall hygiene is to be maintained.

Regards
