Question: Hi I hit the right side of my head about 2 and one half hours ago closing the car door. The top edge of the door hit my ear and a bit of my scalp. The car door has rubber padding. My ear was a little sore when it happened, but only feel a little tightness now. The force use was about 3 inches. I do not feel dizzy. Should I worry?

Brief Answer:
head trauma

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM,
This sounds fairly minor and hopefully you will be fine but I will give you information on the 2 things to watch for.
1) Epidural bleeding
Within the first few hours after a head trauma if you experience severe pain, visual changes or vomitng you should go directly to the Emergency department. Ask your friends or family to watch you for at least 6 hours and take you to Emergency if they think you are not alert or begin acting strangely.
2)Subdural bleeding
In the next few weeks you should get completely better, but there is a form of slow bleeding that can cause headache even weeks after a head trauma. If this occurs you would develop a severe headache. You should go to Emergency if this happens.
Hopefully you will just have some soreness in your ear and scalp and it will heal up without further attention.

Dr. Robinson

I do not have any soreness at all in ear, except for a little tightness. I went to the gym a few minutes later and started exercising, but decided I should not exercise today. Can I exercise tomorrow? I do not feel any tenderness on my ear or head right now

Brief Answer:
yes you can exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is a good idea to rest today and drink plenty of water. You should be able to exercise tomorrow. If you develop headache when exercising just take it easy for a day or two.
Best wishes,
