Question: I have had a sore inner thigh/near my buttocks. Quite concerned why I have a rash on each side of my thigh close to these areas. Is it chaffing or possibly something more serious?

Brief Answer:
that is fungal infection , it will fade away gradually with hot showers and anti fungal ointments .
Detailed Answer:
Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using HealthcareMagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..

In my opinion that could be a type of fungal dermatitis . do not want you to be worried as it is common , it usually appears after long walks in sweaty days when wearing tight jeans or under wears .
For now i recommend you have hot showers more frequently and apply topical anti fungal ointments 3 times a day will be fine . ( try using ointments with steroid contents will be more than enough in your case).
If that skin irritation persists or increases after using ointments then i suggest you have a visit to your dermatologist for proper evaluation and management .

Is there a recommended brand or type of antifungal cream? Is this considered jock itch or yeast infection? I just wanted to understand which type I should get. I added another photo (more clear)

Detailed Answer:
I personally recommend daktarin ointment or kenacomb or quadriderm . no it is not yeast infection . do not worry take daily hot showers and apply it 3 times on dry skin and it will fade in less than a week . try to avoid tight jeans or under wears and keep this area dry with minimal humidity and moisture .
