Suggest Treatment For Spinal Arthritis

Question: I am a 73 year old female. I have been to my family doctor in Crosby, Minnesota. My vitals are all good and my general heIvalth is also good. About a month ago I started having a lot of pain in my neck and shoulder. I am still in pain 24/7. I sleep only on one side. The pain when I try to turn over is excruciating. The pain reminds me of a severe "Charlie horse". My neck will start to knot up, then it will subside for a time. Then it starts all over again. I had a ct scan which came out good. I've been taking muscle relaxers, pain pills,
Aleve, Advil along with using ice and heat. NOTHING helps! I've also seen my Chiropractor ( I know you probably don't like to hear this) who took an x-ray of the neck and upper shoulder. It showed spinal arthritis at 5,6 &7. I am out of alignment, which he is working on now. Possibly a pinched nerve?? I've had about 5 treatments so far. No positive results yet. If I could just find relief once in a while, I could handle this but there is never any relief. The pain is the worst in the mornings. My neck and shoulder are all locked up. I am at my wits end. Please help me.

Brief Answer:
Loks like a pinched nerve

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

The symptoms and results indeed suggest a pinched nerve. Unfortunately there is no easy way out. We have to try local measures like neck collar, physiotherapy, ultrasound therapy, etc plus meds and when required.

Some meds targeting nerves, like gabapentin may be required. Hopefully things will get better in some time. Rarely, surgery is required to relieve compression on a nerve.

Hope this helps.
Regards
