Suggest Treatment For Spindle Cell Thymoma

Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: I was diagnosed with a Spindle Cell Thymoma & had it removed by Dr. Iva Smolens, a cardiothoracic surgeon, whom I met at The MD XXXXXXX Cancer Center. At our last appointment, she recommended I follow up with my Oncologist, Dr. XXXXXXX & my Neurologist Dr. Tamm. One nodule of cells (5A) was positive with TCK. My question is with having Anti-body negative MG & a Thymoma, why has no one bothered to check me for the muscle protein titin, the cytokines interferon alpha, & interleukin 12? Dr. XXXXXXX was checking my CBC & my last CT was last January. I had to relocate out of the XXXXXXX area & will have to establish care with new providers. How important is it to monitor these lab values?

Brief Answer: Recurrent thymus tumor Detailed Answer: Dear XXXX, These lab. values have more a diagnostic significance as far as presence of the disease is concerned. As such these are not having a very significant value as far as prognosis or treatment is concerned. These type of thymomas are slow growing tumours and surgical removal is the treatment of choice. Some people think that it has more of theoretical importance and less of practical significance. This must be the reason that you were not earlier advised to undergo muscle protein titin assay.
