Question: My mom diagnosed with spleenomegaly 15mm it's curable. My doctor advice to remove spleen. Plz suggest

I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.

I would further like to know few things to comment.What kind of symptoms shes having now??I would also like to know her complete blood counts mainly red blood cells and platelets.Is it a sudden increase in size or it was gradual??

She had hodgking lymphoma from last 10 year she had chemotherapy, radiation and hemoglobin 9.0 wbc 2400 rbc 4.1 and platlet 1.3 lakh esr 30mm 1st hour and in ct scan marked enlarge in size with dilated Sv 15mm and no focal obvious lesion and marked spleenomegaly with mild dilated Porto splenic axis and tiny calcific in segment 4a of liver and no ascites and D2 duodenal diverticulum

Splenectomy should be done in hodgkins lymphoma for palliation of the symptoms of splenomegaly and the sequelae of hypersplenism.

Primary splenic hodgkins lymhoma is a very rare entity which will further require splenectomy.

So I suggest you to consult with your operating surgeon and discuss the line of management.

Yes there is increased incidence of infections

Yes after splenectomy there is an increased incidence of infections from klebsiella,pneumococcus etc. Sometimes this infection increases the death rates.
