Suggest Treatment For Stabbing Pain In Calf, Thigh, Shin, Chest And Upper Back

Question: Hello, I have a query regarding stabbing intermittent pain in multiple areas. Over the last few years I have experienced these short sharp and very painful stabbing sensations in my calf, thigh, shin, chest and the last few days in my mid-upper back slightly to the left side. The pain is actually quite intense while it hits me, normally in clusters and then subside for anying from 5 min to a few hours. It can appear out of the blue, sitting still or walking. I have not been feeling oit of breath or heavy in my chest at the same time although I am generally in rather bad shape, skinny but dont work out much, quite easily dizzy from standing up after sitting or lying down. I am getting fed up of feeling worried and like a hypochondriac the last few years. This pain is NOT anxiety related, it is real and strong, but it seems almost impossible to believe that something is actually wrong with me, I even doubt myself. Do you have any ideas? I have been given a neurological checkup about 1 1/2 years ago which didn't reveal anything of concern. My heart has been checked and I am having a CT angiogram in a week. My mother is deceased, but she suffered from MS and my younger sister is quite badly affected by MS. I havent been particularly concerned about MS but I am beginning to wonder.
I should perhaps mention that I have also frequently been bothered by what feels like tiny cramps in the muscles around the heart area.

Brief Answer:
MS to be excluded, consider peripheral neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Family history of multiple sclerosis is one of the risk factors of developing it, so, it is necessary to be checked about this possibility even to exclude it.

Another possibility ( since you exclude anxiety and stress disorder ) that may explain your symptoms is peripheral neuropathy that may be related to several conditions such diabetes, viral infections, low vitamin B12, etc.

It is necessary to be reevaluated by a Neurologist and to have a new MRI, blood tests too, in order to diagnose properly your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
