Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I have been experiencing pain in my sternum for the past two days....could be exercise related? I feel like I need to crack my sternum. Anxiety provoking and deep, relaxing breathing along with ibuprofen seems to help. No other symptoms, no problem sleeping. I am 54 year old femail, 5 ft 3. 170 pounds. thoughts?

Brief Answer:
It is likely muscular pain related to excercises.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your sternum pain is likely to be muscular pain.It can be excercises related. It may also be related to bronchitis as it can also lead to muscle fatigue. Its treatment is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Vitamin B and C is helpful in recovery. You can further investigate by x ray and CT scan of sternum.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Last question:) There is no pain when I push on the sternum, just a general ache and urge to crack the bone. Could it still be a muscle with no pain when I touch it? You have been very helpful....I will be sure and rate you. Thanks!
