Question: I have been experiencing stomach distress and gas for one and one half weeks. My body aches - headache and legs especially. I can do nothing since I am so exhausted. I continue to have a temp from 97 degrees to 96 degrees. Should I see a doctor?

Brief Answer:
Take soluble fiber diet & maintain good hydration.

Detailed Answer:
HI,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. It appears to be due to change in colonic bacterial flora. You need to improve the normal commensal bacterial flora. You can use yoghurt and probiotics to improve it. Also avoid, insoluble fiber and take more soluble fiber diet (from fruits and vegetables). Insoluble fiber is metabolized by bacteria resulting in gas production. This gas expands the intestines, resulting in cramps or dull aching pain in the abdomen. Fruits, specifically banana, papaya, etc will be helpful. Avoid legumes, or any food, which can increase gas production in you. Look into your diet closely for past 2 weeks, and avoid as necessary.
2. Also additionally more fluid intake. Low fluid can cause dehydration, which can present with generalized body ache, including head ache and muscle ache. Atleast 5-6 liters minimum of water would be helpful.
3. Also check for your hemoglobin levels. It can cause weakness.

Continue with regular soluble fiber rich diet along with adequate hydration. Avoid straining during stool passage.

Not to worry about temperature. It is below the normal range due to reduced metabolism and weakness.

It will improve along with diet and hydration. Take probiotics too. Choose your food intake closely, avoiding processed food, if possible.

Not to worry for now. Do get back, if you have any other symptoms.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
