Suggest Treatment For Subtalar Arthritis

default
Posted on Sat, 23 Apr 2016
Question: I have been diagnosed with severe narrowing of the posterior subtalar articulation with prominent osteophyte. There may be a degree of posterior ankle impingement related to this and impingement of the flexor hallucinating Lingus tendon at this site. There is evidence of mild subtalar arthropathy with small osteochrndral lesions probably at the medial aspect of the articulation. Also have a 2 mm subchrondral cyst with surrounding sclerosis and a similar 3 mm subchrondral cyst at the media, malleolus adjacant to the media, ankle gutter. Can you please simplify this report for me. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Subtalar arthritis. Needs joint cleaning by a Foot and Ankle surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

You seem to be having arthritis of the joint close to the ankle called Subtalar joint.

There are certain changes that take place in arthritis like new extra bone formation called osteophytes which can compress on surrounding tendons and cause difficult motion. The tendon that causes your great toe to flex downward has been trapped and hence cause difficulty to do so.

To adequately treat these symptoms, you can get a consult by a Foot and Ankle surgeon who will use Arthroscopic or key hole surgical method to debride or clean up the joint and remove extra unwired bone which will help with the symptoms.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
