Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.
I can understand your concern for sunburn and bulging veins on scalp region.
After reading your query and analyzing it with diligence let me first reassure you that the prominent veins never occur due to sunburn. These veins are normally and usually quite prominent physiologically but sunburn never causes bulging of veins.
To tell you simply in terms of medical sciences- Veins are deeper structure under the skin, fat and fascia (tissues under the skin). In sunburns, there is a tendency of the skin to get mildly to moderately get inflamed due to harsh effect of sunlight but it never go such a deep that it can affect veins. So accordingly the veins are never affected by sunburns.
Regarding the prominence or bulging veins- as I said it is in general a normal physiological process in veins to get more prominent at some time and less at the other but due to mild to moderate inflammation of the skin only by sunburns. The skin gets more bulged out due to sunburn and therefore it appears that the veins are prominent.
So do not get worried about the sunburns and its deleterious effect on veins.
In my patients of sunburns, I suggest them to use a hat or cap in outdoor activities. A sunscreen can be applied every three hourly, but I find it more cumbersome and messy thing. Therefore it is best to use a hat or cap regularly.
For the present kind of problem of sunburns I suggest my patients to use a mild topical steroids such as hydrocortisone or fluticasone in thin layer. For itching I prefer to give anti-histamine like loratadine 1-2 times daily.
I also suggest you to take lot of vitamin A containing fruits such as papaya and green leafy vegetables which acts as antioxidants and therefore prevents sun damage.
I hope these information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.
"Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem"
