Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In Right Leg Due To Stuck Thorn

Question: Hi Doctor,
My mother name is XXXXXXX & she is 55 years old and she takes BP control tabs every day as she was suffering from weasing&high BP problem; however she is normal with this.
6months ago she had been to village where my sister lives. There are more trees on the road sides especially which will have thorns. One day my mother went out and it was a dry land with heavy breeze in the fields. A branch of thorn stuck with her saree in between legs near ankle level and a thorn pierced her right leg near ankle. Later she took treatment immediately and it was cured.
Later in a span of two months again the pain started in right leg near ankle and again she has been diagnosed by physician but again it was temporary solution.
Recently again due to heavy swelling/pain in her right leg and sleepless nights again consulted with different doctor. He took X ray, scanning, and tested blood and said everything is normal and diagnosed her. Presently she is under medication but problem increased.

Presently she is suffering from pain and swelling of the leg near ankle its more in night. The top skin is normal without any cut/open/wound but inside nerves is problem. Don’t know what to do whom to consult further. Please advice.

It can be a foreign body reaction

Hello,
I have studied your case in detail, and I think some part of thrown is still inside. That has caused foreign body reaction. That is the cause of swelling and pain.
To confirm this I would suggest you to get MRI of the foot and ankle. It will give us information if thrown is still inside and if yes then where it is present.
If it is confirmed then she might need a surgical procedure. If possible surgeon will remove the thrown and clean all area.
She will need antibiotics after the surgery for 10 days.

MRI not done, should i get it done in daignostic centre directly and then consult a physian or which consultant. how much it could cost approx.

Can I attach the priscription and test reports of thyrod function test, Biochemistry Haematology? for yor reference. Also X ray was taken but nothing found in it.

Pls advise.

Hello,
I would suggest you to show it to orthopaedic surgeon and discuss my opinion with him. He will right down MRI for you. If cost is a factor, get it from government hospital, where it may be done in 2500 or less.
