My wife's (age 23) legs have got swollen. This is the 2nd time it happened. Also the urine test showed the negative result. I have attached the image of her leg. Please suggest what needs to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
If only one of her legs is swollen, then I advise she go in to the ER promptly for evaluation of a possible deep vein thrombosis (DVT) which can be done with imaging. It is important to have that evaluated as soon as possible because of risks of having a clot go into her circulation and cause complications.
But if both legs are swollen in a young woman, it is not usually an urgent matter. It can be from standing and sometimes sitting for prolonged periods of time, from hormonal imbalances, from excess weight.
There are other things that can cause this problem too, but in someone who is 23 yrs. old and overall healthy, they are much less likely (such as varicosities of the veins, lymphatic problems, heart, liver, and kidney problems).
If the swelling does not resolve with elevating her feet as much as possible, and it does not seem to be hormonally related, I recommend she go in to be seen by her doctor.
She may also consider compression stockings but before doing that I recommend getting checked by her doctor.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

If both legs are swollen then have her elevate them as much and as often as possible, avoid a lot of added salt in food, and if it does not resolve in a day or so, then she should be seen by her doctor.
