Suggest Treatment For Swelling Of Face On One Side Extending To Ear

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: I am away from home and have developed a swollen face on one side. the swelling extends from under my ear to half way down my neck. It is not painful, I do not have a raised temp; no other symptoms. I have recently flown and my ears did give me a problem as a result. It is like a large hard lump. Can I continue my trip as scheduled, or is this something to be worried about right now. I'll be home in 10 days. I started taking amoxicillin a few minutes ago, hoping that will be enough.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query.

This is something which needs immediate investigation. I would seek care at a local hospital or hospital affiliated clinic.

My concern is that the swelling may represent vascular congestion in one of your blood vessels - that is to say - something may be impeding normal flow - this could include a mass or other type of obstruction.

I think at minimum a chest xray and possibly a ct scan would be indicated.

I would not wait to have this evaluated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
