Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Knuckles
Question: A dog bit down into my right thumb...on top of my knuckle; this happened 1 month ago. The right knuckle on the right side has a bit of swelling. Is this scar tissue and is there anything I can do to reduce it? The thumb knuckle is a major joint so I am concerned of reduced strength and mobility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
This is probably a formation of the fibrous tissue.
There is a definitive role of doing an x ray of the hand to make sure there is no foreign body in the joint.
However this more likely to be he fibrous tissue.
To a large extent, the fibrous tissue resolves on its own once its need gets over.
So I don't think you need to worry about it.
However if there is persistent tissue, it will need removal by plastic surgeon.
Usually the active joints like the thumb joint do not form the scar tissue.
I hope that answers you
