Brief Answer:
need ENT assessment
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional info!
A swollen and painful tonsil is a strange finding. Normally a patient with an upper respiratory tract infection will have both tonsils enlarged and perhaps also the neck lymph nodes. Unilateral tonsil enlargement raises suspicion for abscess and tumors. I'm not suggesting that you do have either of them (I couldn't without examining you, at least) but an ENT assessment would be appropriate.
I don't understand the reason that your doctor changed the regimen. Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and should be more than enough for most cases of tonsillitis. Ciprofloxacin is a strange choice for tonsillitis. I'm sure your doctor had some reasons but I don't know them (and can't guess them). For example, did you do a throat culture?
Please note that most cases of tonsillitis get better even by themselves. The antibiotics are given to prevent complications and to lessen the duration of the disease a little bit.
I hope you find my comments helpful!
You can contact me again, if you'd like any clarification or further information.
