Suggest Treatment For Swollen Painful Parotid Glands Along With Fever In Children
Question: My son has 5th episode of swollen parotid/salivary glands since October. Sometimes in front of ear, can be under or behind and swaps sides. He is just 4 and had tonsillectomy May last year, not sure if linked? Keeps having antibiotics but only finished course 3 days b4 next swelling last time. Sometimes has fever and pain alongside but not always. Has viscous saliva. Any ideas? Doc and a&e just don't know, waiting impatiently for follow up. He has had first mmr and mumps test negative.
Brief Answer:
Your son is suffering from the other viral disease
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your query, and it suggest that your son most probably not suffering from the mumps but may be suffering from the other causes of parotiditis, therefore it should be rule out
1. Parainfluenza virus
2. Epstein Barr Virus
3. Cytomegalovirus
4. Entero virus and
5. HIV
According to my best of knowledge first vaccination of MMR is in favour of mumps but recurrent attack is unfavourable.
For better management, please send me the image of your son, prescription and test report.
Thanks
