Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of GERD

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: About four months ago, I started experiencing what I guess is referred to "acid reflex" below the sternum. It's not necessarily painful but I do feel like vomiting. I'm 69 yrs of age and have never had anything like this before. I'm researching as to what would cause this. I Bought a new Keurig in November and started drinking the "breakfast blend" coffee for it (because it was the mildest-I have a sensitive stomach) plus, I stay away from spicy foods. I also have two glasses of wine at night and take one Naproxen 500mg tablet for minor arthritis at bedtime. I don't experience it very often but when it hits, I'm usually down for the count in bed most of the day. Any input you may have would be most helpful. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Severe gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic.

You are having a condition called GERD (Gastro esophalegeal reflux disorder) overlapped with reflux oesophagitis. In this, there is reversal of acid and gastric contents from stomach back into food pipe. It is usually associated with severe retrosternal chest burning sensation called heart burn and gastritis.

Please request your Gastroenterologist to prescribe you Levosulpiride or Domperidone 30 mg once daily in combination with proton pump inhibitor. This will help you symptomatically in long term.
Acotiamide can also be added to your regimen thrice daily . Please discuss these options with your Gastroenterologist.

Apart from medicines--

Follow a High fiber diet.
Drink lots of Cold milk.
Take lots of yogurt in food.
Avoid any fast food for few months.
No fried food or spicy food.
Dont drink juices of citric fruits like orange,It may increase acidity.

Naproxen is anti inflammatory medicine and gastritis is a common side effect of it, please replace it with simple Paracetamol tablets.

Thank you
