Question: my mother was hearing voices, seeing people that were not there= voices told her to harm herself, she's 65 years old.
This is the 4th visit to the same hospital. she does have cirrhosis of liver.
1st visit bad infection in the mouth- ct scan done in the mouth memory gone gave antibiotics memory came back, sent home with amoxicillin.
2nd visit infection again- antibiotics, sent home
3rd visit sharp pain on the top of her heard for 2 days, and ears hurting, per test seemed she had a small stroke -she fainted on the way to the hospital- admitted for two days gave her morphine, MRI test came back normal- sent her home.
4th visit - she started to hear voices, and knew they were not real, asked my dad if he was hearing them too- I can tell she was fighting to stay normal, but it took over- after a week of dealing with this, the voices in her head took over. she tried to harm herself- was not able to sleep due to voices in her head, seeing people by her bed, holding conversations- after trying to harm herself, she was admitted in the psch unit for 2 days (psychiatrist and ER Dr evaluated her), moved to ER 1 day, pcu 3 days, they said she has an infection but not sure where, they did spinal tap, MRI normal- Neurologist says she passed test- they are wanting to send her home.
this has been happening every 2 weeks. since Nov 5th
she has been through so much, she is a strong woman, but for her to continue going to the hospital every other week and not being diagnosed breaks my heart- its just her and my dad whose 70 years old. this has taken a toll on him- he just wants his wife to get better.
I don't know what to do- I am assuming with 122 Doctors on line, someone can help me diagnose my mom.
Thank you sooo much-

Brief Answer:
I think she need to be evaluated for LBD

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although it will be always difficult to make a diagnosis on basis of little information but I feel she should be evaluated for Lewi body dementia.

Visual hallucinations, fluctuating course, preservation of insight, frequent hospitalizations in short span of time with episodes of memory loss indicates the possibility of LBD.

The second probable diagnosis is infection induced Delirium considering her response to antibiotics and acute course.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.
