Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Asthma
Question: Hi. I have been diagnosed with severe cat allergy. The cat will be removed in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I had been on generic singulair, Nasacort and ventalin inhaler as needed. Things had been going fine (hadn't used the inhaler in months) until a couple of weeks ago when I was having a very stressful time at work/home. That's when things went haywire. I felt the need to use the inhaler on a regular basis and I ended up in the ER with a severe panic attack. All vitals were perfect and they told me to stop the singulair. I am now only taking the allegra and have switched to Xonpenex inhaler. I find if I am at work, I have a good day and only need to use the inhaler at night and when I get up.

It sounds like the allergies and asthma are still not completely controlled. I am not sure why they told you to stop the singular as it is a very good allergy medication. The first line treatment is always antihistamines such as Benadryl and Zyrtec followed by inhaled steroids. Singular is the not option. If the singular was helping, I would strongly encourage you to call your doctor to see if you can restart it. You may alway want to try inhaled steroid temporarily to help while you get your house all cleaned up. I would also recommend cleaning you air conditioning system as well as the carpets and all of your clothes. You may want to get your couch and bed cleaned as well. The hardest part is knowing that his will take months to fix and get over. In the meantime, I would recommend continue your current regimen and asking your doctor to see if you can get temporary intranasal steroids and restart the singular. The goal is to only use the inhaler one to two times a month.
