Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Flu While Having Sjogren's Syndrome
Question: how do i know if my wife has a bad cold or the flu? she suffers from Sjogrens syndrome "Sicca syndrome" that started to flare up a few days before her becoming ill
Brief Answer:
Flu vs bad cold
Detailed Answer:
good evening
thank you for writing on health care magic
Well it is always a tough job to distinguish between flu and bad cold. Flu normally comes with more severe symptoms. like high grade fever, cough. lot of muscle aches and body aches. Cold may not have such severe systemic symptoms... But both are caused by viral itself and can trigger underlying autoimmune disease, like sjogrens...
If you could throw some light on her symptoms it would be helpful

Brief Answer:
Sjogrens Flare
Detailed Answer:
Good evening
Sorry for the late reply. had a long duty hours
Well, it does look like a severe flu she has acquired which may have triggered her underlying Sjogrens Disease as well, causing joint pains and body ache and worsening of sicca symptoms.
But never the less, these symptoms can be just post viral as well as most of them overlap.
What I would suggest is you take a short course of Anti inflammatory drugs like Naprosyn 500 mg twice daily for 3 days and see if the improvement comes...If it still doesnt improve, we may need to step up the drugs you are taking for Sjogrens Syndrome and run a few blood tests as well.
A bit of dilemma, but conservative approach is the best way out...
Do let me know for more queries
