Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Foot Drop
This is XXXX. I ama 55 YO white male with Type 2 Non insulin Diabetes, hypertension. My question involves my lower leg and foot. I did have a bad sprin of the right ankle 18 years ago. Over the past couple of years I have had occasional episodes where the outside part of my right shin down onto the top of my foot have become very painful. Normally after extended walking or standing but then it would go away. Yesterday I did extensive standing and last night I had the pain again, starting on the top of my foot and then it went up the side of my leg. It does not change with weight placed n the leg. The problem I noticed last night was I could not flex my foot. It will flex if pushed but I cannot flex it. The pain went away for a while last night then came back more intense XXXXXXX ever. I also realized early this morning I can't control my foot. If I push it back when I release the pressure it just falls into a natural position. Interestingly, I can move my toes. I ave been under a lot of stress. Lost my sister this week after her battle with lung cance.
You may be having foot drop
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query
I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,
I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern.I think you are having foot drop as you are unable to flex your foot. However It can be flexed passively (by pushing it) . You also cannot control it.It is generally due to temporary paralysis of lateral perineal nerve. Most common cause of it can be continuous pressure on outerside of knee pressing the nerve. Sometimes continuous pressure of sciatic nerve in lower back region also leads to it.
It is generally nerve weakness (temporary paralysis)and recover in due course of time. Mecobalamine (Vit B12) and other B complex vitamins help in recovery. For pain you can take analgesic such as ibuprofen.
You can investigate it by nerve conduction test of sciatic nerve.
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
Hope I have answered your query.
