Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Migraine

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jan 2017
Question: My daughter has attacks of a very painful headache, feeling very warm in her head and body, burning sensations on both sides of the head, 5 to 30 minutes, usually not more than once a day. Sometimes she wakes up with this headache. Stress seems to trigger it sometimes. She has started to have sunglasses outdoors being irritated by strong light. This happened for about a week and then the attacks stopped. Now, after about ten days of this has happened again. Massaging her neck muscles seems to help.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of migraine.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your daughter's clinical details. Based on this, the most likely diagnosis is migraine. For relief of headaches, medicines such as naproxen or rizatriptan would help.

Since the headaches are frequent, medications such as topiramate may be used to reduce the frequency and severity of headache episodes.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
